Course Description

Special advanced offerings explore topics in U.S. History. Topics focus on historical research drawing on multi-pronged research methods, for example, working with primary and secondary sources, material culture, oral history, and historiography. The courses provide both greater context and deeper engagement with the sorts of preliminary ideas discussed in the 200-level History courses. May be repeated if topics differ. Fulfills the History and Politics Perspective. Prerequisite: junior standing. (Semester varies)

Summer 2024 Topic:

Section 002 Race and Gender in Early America

This asynchronous online course will examine how race and gender shaped the history of the American colonies from contact/colonization to the era of the American Revolution. Students will complete readings that look at the domestic role of women as well as how European women and women of color contributed to the economic, social and political life of the American colonies.

Prerequisites

Students must be enrolled at another college or university at the Junior or Senior undergraduate level. Additionally, students must be adults 18 or over and possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
