Course Description

This course explores the transformative power of devised theatre in various settings, welcoming all students interested in using theatre as a tool for transformative learning and  engagement thus benefiting students working in K-12 schools, community organizations, or other applied theatre environments. As a class, students will explore methods for critical theatre-making, focusing on how facilitation strategies can open up opportunities to imagine and perform possible futures with care and intentionality. Coursework pays particular attention to the realities of power dynamics that shape our communities, continually asking: “How can we infuse our communal creative processes with care for one another?” 

 

Prerequisites

Students must receive advance permission to enroll from Emerson's Theatre Education program.

Additionally, students must have earned a Bachelor's degree in order to enroll in this graduate level course.
